The Fighting 60s: 62 Group

I have been sent an article Steve Silver wrote  on the militant anti-fascist organisation the 62 Group for Searchlight in 2002. I’m more than happy to put up articles on the Anti-Fascist Archive and if you have any please send them to me.

He talks about the origins of the 62 Group and it’s familiarities with the 43 Group from the 1940s. The 62 Group was also largely made up of working class Jews and it’s main opponents were Mosley’s fascists but also the future leaders of the fascist movement: Colin Jordan’s and John Tyndall’s group the Nationalist Socialist Movement.

Silver’s article contains a large amount of eyewitness accounts and photographs.

Intelligence Gathering: Bugged BNP Meetings

BNP meetings were bugged in order to gain intelligence for Anti-Fascist Action and Searchlight. The buggings have been discussed in No Retreat.

The recordings are not 100% and I am working on subtitles for them. I suggest you wear headphones.

But they provide an interesting glimpse into the lengths anti-fascists would go into and their ingenuity. To extent the buggings were useful in terms of putting the information in use in physical action is not 100% clear.

Brighton Anti-Fascist Action

This post will list materials relating to Brighton Anti-Fascist Action.
I have received a series of fairly heated letters between Tony Greenstein of Brighton AFA and Gerry Gable of Searchlight. They reveal tense relations between t he two.

  • 24/06/93 – Brighton AFA’s letter to supporters on a ‘security alert’ in Midlands AFA, Searchlight’s relationship with the state, suspicions on Searchlights relationship with AFA, issues with Fighting Talk, problems within AFA
  • 13/07/93 – Searchlight’s Gerry Gable replies to Brighton AFA’s letter. It’s heated from the beginning and deals with the allegations.
  • 16/07/93 – Tony Greenstein replies back to Searchlight. He deals with the allegations of taking copies of Searchlight without paying. He goes on to discuss the Class War inquiry, Lara O’Hara, and another 6 points.

Gordon Gee: Intelligence Gathering

This post contains two recordings of phone calls with Manchester BNP organiser Gordon Gee in November, 1990.

Searchlight journalist, Steve Tilzey, dupes Gee into, first, believing he is Terry, a BNP official, and secondly, following a Searchlight article using the intellegience gathered, David Howarth, a BNP security officer.

This recording includes comments on Holocaust News and National Socialism. “JT” is mentioned this is BNP leader John Tyndall.

This recording hears Tilzey telling off Gee for having a mole within his organisation

The recordings may be quiet. I suggest using headphones, earphones or speakers. Turn the bass down too.
